Reports and Three Way
Conferences – how do they work in 2018?
Our
Three Way Conferences are part of the way we report to our parents. We are
required to report on your child’s learning twice each year.
Our
reporting process runs right through the year; depending on your child’s class
level, there will be different opportunities at different times.
If your child is in
Year 4-6…
All
Year 4-6 pupils follow the same timeline:
ü Toward the end of Term
1, there will be a Three Way Conference (3WC) to discuss key learning goals for
the first half of year.
ü At the end of Term 2, a second 3WC will be
held. These will look at how the goals have been met, and give an update on
overall learning progress. A Formative Learning Report (FLR) will be sent home
after this round.
ü The year rounds off
with the End of Year Report in December.
If your child is in
Year 1-3…
Things
are a little more complicated for these classes.
We
are required to report to you based on when your child started school. This is
called Anniversary Reporting. Your
reports and 3WC times will depend on when your child’s anniversary occurs.
o If your child’s
anniversary is in March or early April, your 3WC will be at the end of Term1.
o If your child’s
anniversary is from late April to early July, your 3WC will be at the end of
Term 2.
o If your child’s
anniversary is from late July through to end of September, your 3WC will be in
late Term 3.
The 3WC will be a chance for you, your
child and the teacher to discuss your child’s learning. After your 3WC, you
will receive an Anniversary Report,
showing how your child has achieved against the National Standards.
You will also receive an End of Year
Report in December. This will show your child’s progress toward the next set of
National Standards.
All sound simple so far?
For some children, it works in the
opposite way. Please keep reading!
Some children don’t have their
anniversary at the times above. What happens to them?
o
If
your child’s anniversary is in October – November, you will have a 3WC at the
end of Term 1. This 3WC will talk about how your child is progressing at the mid-point toward the next set of
National Standards.
o
If
your child’s anniversary is from December until the end of February, you will
have a 3WC at the end of Term 2. This will also talk about how your child is
progressing at the mid-point toward the
next set of National Standards.
After your 3WC, you will receive a Mid-Point Anniversary Report.
In December, you will receive an End of Year Report. This will show your
child’s achievement at their anniversary.
So everyone gets two reports in the
year. They just come at different times for different children!
So do I
only get one 3WC for the year? What if I want another one?
For each child, there is one ‘formal’
3WC. This is the one where you get the
Anniversary Report.
If you want to have an extra 3WC at a
different time, you can just book a time in one of the other terms. This would
be an ‘informal’ 3WC, where you discuss your child’s learning. The only
difference is that there would be no written report at the end.
You are very welcome to attend a 3WC in
each of the first three terms, if you wish.
